In our school we have embraced this national initiative and currently every student from Prep to Year 7 studies the English, Mathematics, Science and History (Australian Curriculum) programs.

Please note that the Prep program is called the Foundation level in the Australian Curriculum.

Queensland Curriculum into the Classroom (C2C)

Education Queensland has been on the front foot with the implementation of the national curriculum by creating supporting curriculum documents named Curriculum into the Classroom or C2C.

The C2C elaborates on the core Australian Curriculum documents, providing yearly and term overviews, units of work, weekly, daily and individual lesson plans to support ‘content’ consistency across Queensland.

The C2C supports and complements the great teaching that we know occurs in each classroom every day. Teachers are using the units of work which have been developed through C2C, but are differentiating the lessons to suit the interests and needs of their class. What the C2C curriculum provides is the support for teachers to become even better at their craft, from those who are novices through to the expert teachers. Refining the instructional strategies used by every teacher in every classroom is an ongoing process, aimed at ensuring that the unique approaches of the ‘how’ our teachers achieve positive outcomes for students is valued and supported.

Queensland Essential Learnings

For the other subject areas of HPE, LOTE, Technology, The Arts and SOSE, we will continue to use the Queensland Essential Learnings curriculum.

Teaching and Learning Audit

Teaching and Learning Audits are carried out in all State-run schools in Queensland. These audits are conducted by school principals who, in effect, audit the effectiveness of teaching and learning in other schools. Principals are keen to use these audits in their own school improvement agendas as they give schools the chance to have an outsider's viewpoint. Audit findings are used to find areas within the school that can be improved and also identify those aspects that are of a high quality.

Standards are set against world's best practice. Achieving a 'moderate' score is a good effort. Both 'high' and 'outstanding' are results that should be celebrated. At Vienna Woods State School, we achieved 'high' and 'outstanding' in all 8 areas audited.
